myfoxdc.com for updat. let's get the update from matt ackland on snow patrol. >> reporter: will, maureen, as most of us sleep already going to be many road crews out there trying to treat black ice. that's taking place here in maryland and in the district. the plan is that some crews will work throughout the night. but there is going to be a major push right before rush hour. the good news about a weekend storm is that fewer vehicle are on the road. >> for us it's much better on theeekend beuse we don't have rush-hour traffic and as many people coming into the city. >> reporter: the bad news, it's costing all of us a lot more money. most of the workers clearing the snow are being paid over time. and two big storms recently have fall he be -- fallen on the weekend. mayor fenty said snow removal on the district this winter could go over-budget and then some. >> our snow budget is 6 to $7

million. over the last three years, we have fallen far short of that. this year we probably will exceed it. >> reporter: similar story in maryland where transportation officials tell us $26 million was budgeted for snow removal this winter. even before this weekend's snow the state had spent $37 million to keep the roads safe. just to give you an idea of how busy it has been for crews here in the state of maryland this weekend, at the peak hour, the busiest hour, there were 1400 crews scattered throughout the state of maryland. in bethesda, matt ackland, fox 5 news. plenty of people spent at least part of their day digging out from this weekend's weather. v-d.o.t. expects to have most subdivisions plowed by tomorrow. neighbors helping each other up on capital hill. the official snowfall in d.c., 6-1/2 inches. it was just that powder i

snow, no freezing rain. there was only trouble out on the roads and no pour outages as well. the forecasts, delays, traffic delays, you can find them on myfoxdc.com and wash morning news starting at 4:55. a u.s. missile strike has reportedly killed a pakistani taliban leader. the pakistani army is investigating reports that massuod is dead. he has been linked to the december 30th suicide bombing that killed 7 cia employees in achlth since the attack, the u.s. has unleashed nearly a dozen drone strikes. a local college student has died in a house fire in colorado. 21-year-old adam lockhart was astudent at western state college. he and another student were killed when their house caught fire. four others escaped. no word on a cause.

the u.s. will resume airlifting injured earthquake victims out of haiti. the flights were set to resume tomorrow. the white house said it was assured there was enough medical capacity to handle the victims. flights were halted wednesday after concerns were raised about payment and care. doctors are now in the process of identifying patients who can be transferred. ten americans are facing possible kidnapping charges after they were accused of trying to take more than 30 haitian children out of the country. as fox's laura evans reports the haitian government says they didn't have the right paperwork. . >> reporter: there is a new picture emerging in the story that could be troubling if true for the american baptist group. a woman running the orphanage the children are staying in said most of them have living relatives in haiti, something the group says they werecareful to avoid. the ten americans were taken into custody friday night, suspected of taking part in an illegal adoption scheme according to the haitian social affairs

minister. they are scheduled to appear before a haitian judge tomorrow at the judicial police headquarters. the five men and five women mostly from idaho, some from texas and kansas were trying to take 33 children across the boarder to the dominican republic and get them into a makeshift orphanage. a senior pastor from t central baptist valley church in idaho maintains that the mission was one of compassion, to try to rescue abandoned and traumatized children. >> we believe the end result is going to be exactly what we know. that what our team was doing w everything they knew to do right. that they were seeking to have the paperwork that they needed to have, because they understood the dynamics of this event. >> reporter: the children being bussed to the dr were between the ages of two months and 12 years old. some were sick and dehydrated. according to the group leader, they just wanted to get the kids to a safe place where they could provide food, water and medical care. >> they're very, very precious kids that have lost

even with that sunshine today, temperatures stayed on the cold side. it was 33 degrees for national. 33 degrees for dulles and bwi up to the nofrth us, only up to 29 degrees. they started off very cold. what i was trying to say earlier was the temperatures were dropping but now they're going back up. at least here in the city temperatures have dropped into the middle 20s but back to the northwest the trend has been for temperatures to creep up a little bit. frederick was down into the teens but now they're back up to 25 degrees. hagerstown is up to 30 degrees. martinsburg, 29. winchester is sitting right about 21 degrees. winds are coming in from the west just a little bit. there is actually a trough of low pressure. doesn't mean much but creates a little bit of wind. these temperatures with the wind have come back up many you get down to culpepper it's 9 degrees. fredericksburg has dropped to 16 and manassas is 7. so where the wind is not

blowing the temperatures are really dropping out tonight under the clear skies. and of course we do have the snow on the ground as well and that's keeping them from really, really staying mild out there tonight. but again it's cold out for everybody. as the winds begin to drop off a little bit it will remain a little bit on the cold side too. as temperatures eventually will get down into the teens. now in terms of where we are regionally it's not too bad area wide but we have the snow on the ground here. overnight with fair skies, winds initially dropping off, but going calm by early tomorrow morning. we'll be down into the teens and single digits so it will be cold tomorrow. high pressure in place but lots of sunshine it looks like. a few clouds late in the day. but with that high pressure we should be in pretty good shape in terms of the sunshine. in terms of the five-day forecast too, what we're expecting here is temperatures to eventually warm-up a little bit. at least into the 20s.
